In 2011, artist Drew Cameron was approached by the mother of an Afghan War veteran killed in combat. The woman gave Cameron her son’s uniform to use in his ongoing project to turn military clothing into paper.

The Combat Paper Project has preserved hundreds, if not thousands, of military uniforms as pieces of handmade paper used in books, posters, flags and stenciled images. Many are housed in libraries and museums around the world.
